Sorry if you check it reglarly, which I think Jac and my mom are the only people who do...Either way. This blog will come to an end soon, as Josh comes home on Aug. 26th. We couldn't be more excited. We've added 2 baby girls to the family and are so excited for him to meet them.

Josh served a faithful mission and will return with honor. We are very proud of him. We are blessed for his example and have been very blessed these past 2 years.

Josh's mission report is August 29th, at 11am. It will be at the Carterville church. I will be shutting my personal blog down because I am so bad at this, but I will keep plugging along on Josh's. He'd be pretty upset if I just quit before he makes it a year. Speaking of that...tomorrow will be his 11 month mark, which means, 1 more month and he'll have been gone for 1 year. Speaking for myself, it has been a very quick year. We are blessed that it feels like it's gone so fast. I intend on escorting my parents to Korea in a year to pick Josh up...who knows, we could be in Korea a year from now. The next year will fly!!

Josh is currently a trainer and his first greenie arrived last week (or the week before). He was both excited and nervous. Josh had some wonderful trainers to learn from, and as we all know, he is a born leader, so training will come naturally. He is the happiest he's ever been. I think he's learned to be more adaptable, one thing the 2 of us struggle with. Neither of us really like or welcome change in our lives, but this has required him to modify his thought process. I hope he becomes more adaptable and that he is blessed for learning this trait.

We should be receiving pictures soon, so I will post when I get those. Until then, please continue to pray for Josh.

Stay Classy

Mother's Day

I know, I suck at this...but I do have a good excuse:

Josh's first niece will arrive sometime around October 2nd, and I will be the sister bringing this little girl into the world.

Enough about me!!! :-)

After much drama and pen throwing, we finally got a hold of Josh, in Korea, on Mother's Day. It was great to hear his voice and hear him talk. I miss him. We had many good times and I look forward to many more good times. It's crazy to think that one more Christmas and one more Mother's Day with Josh gone. He says time is flying for him and it seems to be going quite quickly for me, which is a blessing.

I am the worldly sister, so we didn't mission talk it much, I had to catch him up on all the unimportant things going on, but my mom and dad had Josh bear his testimony in Korean. It sounded like a neat experience. Tears were shed (go figure). He is loving it, he loves the Korean people and he loves being a missionary. He is serving faithfully and there is not doubt his life will be forever changed for what he is doing.

He did have the chance to talk to our nephew Bridger, which I'm sure was a major highlight for him! Josh was amazed at the conversation Bridger was able to have. He said he is just like a little person. Bridger has changed so much since he left, so I can only imagine how exciting it was for him to talk to him. He'll have another talking nephew by the time he comes home and a niece who will be 1!! The next year and a half is going to fly.

Josh is really excited to have a niece, when we talked he said he knew it was a girl and he just can't wait to meet her. I have promised to have his picture in her room, so that she knows her uncle by the time he comes home.

Our family has been extremely blessed to have a missionary in our family. We are very blessed to have Josh in our family. He is an example to us all and we look forward to Christmas.

An Elder in Korea

Josh is doing fantastic...so his letters and emails report. I hope he really is. He is picking up the language, getting along great with is companion (who is scheduled to be transferred in the upcoming weeks), loving the food, working really hard, teaching several investigators and is still funny and still our Josh. We said good bye to him in 08 and will not see him in 09. 010 (looks weird) will bring him back to us. If time flies like it has, my next post will be his welcome home. :-) (at the rate I post, I am being somewhat serious)

Just a quick note regarding the "return address" labels on the letters you have been receiving...that address is for packages only...do not send letters. Email or call me and I will get you the correct address for letters. A side note regarding letters, he is more likely to actually write you back if you send a letter versus and email. He spends a lot of time reading emails, but has little time to reply via email...so you want to hear from him more often? Write him a good ol' fashioned letter! It wasn't bad, kind of tasted like pork ( sorry jaro and jett)"

I had to start off with one of my favorite sentences ever uttered. The picture is just for effect...he didn't actually eat a dog that looked like Jaro and Jett. Actually, I'm not sure he saw the dog prior to ingesting it, so who knows if it was Newf Ribs or Golden Retriever Roast. I think eating dog is asking a lot...to see the dog alive, alive, alive, dead, ingest...a whole other story!

My apologies, I have been slacking on this blog and after being chastised by certain people; I am recommitted to this blog.

In the past month we have received emails from Josh, packages from Josh, Christmas presents from Josh and spoken to Josh (the highlight of the holiday's)!

Josh is LOVING Korea. He loves the Korean people and the food. He sounds just like a missionary. He speaks clearly, softly and slowly. He is still the same Josh and has the same sense of humor (which is my favorite thing about him). I had to catch him up on all the worldly things that I watch, see, listen to and read; specifically The HILLS. The only thing we could say about that was "DRAMA" (in unison)!!

Josh rewrote the words to Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" for a Christmas program they had in Korea. From what I gather, he rewrote it with to be about missionary work and he had the chance to play it on the guitar for his ward, branch, missionaries??? Not sure, but he was really excited about it and will hopefully be recording it and sending it our way. "Nothing Else Matters" is the song of the month per Josh's request.

He has quite a few investigators right now and is expecting some baptisms in the upcoming weeks. He is holding out on a lot of story telling at this point, in order to have things to tell us when he comes home. I will have to bribe him for some stories, otherwise this blog is going to get real boring, real fast (get...isn't it already...)

Again, email me with pictures and stories of Josh...if you think of any.

Stay Classy Friends and Family

Packages for Josh

If anyone would like to send a package to Josh, please email or call me, and I will get you the information you need.

We haven't heard from Josh much, so, please check back soon for a new post.

People of Korea

A few basic facts about Korean people. They are generally known for their darker complexion and high cheek bones. As a race, they can be extremely nice as long as you treat them with respect. However, just keep in mind that some cultural differences are involved so you may consider what they do as rude but they do not mean anything personally by it, it is simply thousands of years of tradition. One example of this may be with the older Koreans. Everywhere older people are respected, but in Korea they are highly respected. Sometimes they may appear to be pushy or rude to you, but it really is nothing personal :) Just a different place. The people truly are nice and helpful. If you need help and understand little Korean, they will help you. They love when you want to learn the language and will help you with that as well.
Some Koreans may still be stubborn and independent (I mean no disrespect!). Some are still very grouped (independent, but grouped.) What I mean is it hasn't been long since Korean's came out of the whole dynasty deal. You may find a lot of generalizations about each 'dynasty', such as the Lee Dynasty, Park, Kim, etc...and most of them are true! There are distinct characteristics that hold true, so older Koreans will ask a lot of questions about family backround.
If you travel there, you may get looks and feel awkward sometimes, but this is only natural because most people there are Koreans and asians, so any other race may stand out. That is nothing personal either :) I promise! You really should go sometime and enjoy it! It will definitely be worth the visit.

One common fact that many people never understand properly deals with birthdays. If you speak to an Asian online, you may get confused when discussing ages and what grade in school and everything. This is because birthdays are a little different. Korean people will generally have an age of 1-2 years older than someone elsewhere who was born in the same year. When a Korean is born, they are automatically considered one year old. Many Koreans then consider themselves one year older on January 1st.

Information provided by: learnkoreanlanguage.com

3 Months Gone

This is what we looked like 3 months ago, yesterday.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278980592669460194" style="DISPLAY: block; Man it has been crazy! I dont even know where to begin. Our flight was super long. We got our companions on friday. My new comp is Elder Hadley. He is from AZ. Our apartment is super small. We live with another companionship. One of the Elders I knew in the MTC, so that's fun. You should see the motorcycles on the street. They're nuts! I love the food, it is even better than Sam Hawk. We have 3 investigators, one will get baptized next week hopefully. Church was awesome. All in Korean (obviously haha) and yes, i had to speak. Just an introduction and testimony. They were very impressed with my Korean. We teach english classes twice a week, and go "street boarding"(proselyting) for about an hour a day. We are very busy it seems. I love you guys so much! I'll talk to you next week!

-Elder Beasley

A Blog for Josh

Julianne, Josh's oldest sister, here. I decided to start a blog for Josh. I am doing this for the following reasons: his family and friends want to know and see how he is doing, to share stories about Josh, to be reminded of just how funny he is, to learn more about Korea, to view pictures of Josh (will not be limited to mission pictures), to keep track of movies and music he will miss, to document what his friends and family thought about while he was gone and any other reason I think of along the way. I think this is my way of keeping in touch with him. It was important to him that he not be forgotten; that we not only think about him often, but talk about him often. I hope this blog allows friends and family to come together and share stories about Josh. I hope you will email me pictures or memories of Josh that I can post on this blog. Like the title says,
"Let us not forget Josh!"

I will keep you posted weekly on how Josh is doing. If I can convince him (and more importantly, if he has time), I will have him write something specific for this blog. At the very least, you will know how he is going. I hope this brings Josh's family and friends together until Josh returns...

Everybody is a somebody, so even if I don't know you but you know Josh; please feel free to email me pictures or stories.

Here's to you Josh.
